Our Principals

Tazmin Merali, B.Pharm., MBA, ICD.D, is the founder and President of Drug Intelligence. Tazmin combines a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry, the pharmacy and the hospital sector. She has had a variety of assignments, from the medical/regulatory department at Ciba-Geigy to Sales at Eli Lilly. She has worked as a Pharmacist as well as the Director of Pharmacy Services and Secretary of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee as well as the Research and Ethics Committee.

Since founding her own company in 1993, Tazmin has led various projects for a number of pharmaceutical companies. She has also been involved for the last 10 years, with Green Shield Canada, one of the top 10 health benefits companies. Raised in Montréal, she graduated from the Université de Montréal with a Bachelor of Pharmacy, and from the University of Toronto with a Master of Business Administration degree. Tazmin is fluently bilingual in English and French.


Nasir Noormohamed, MHSc, CMA, founded the “Innovative Solutions for Managed Care” division of Drug Intelligence. Nasir oversees the Drug Formulary Submission Projects, Clinical Trials Management as well as the development and implementation of all Drug Intelligence’s Proprietary Patients and Prescriptions databases as well as data management for all studies. In addition to the pharmaceutical industry, he has worked with diverse clients including the Cardiac Care Network, various hospitals and the University of Toronto’s Department of Health Administration.

Nasir has been active on a number of voluntary boards and professional organizations in the healthcare sector. Nasir graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master of Health Science in Health Administration.


Azim Juma, MD, MHA, CCFP Assistant Professor, Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of Toronto and part-time Medical Director of Drug Intelligence. He maintains an active primary care practice. Prior to practicing medicine, Azim had a successful career as a hospital administrator and since then he has assisted a number of hospitals, health care and social services organizations in the planning, delivery as well as evaluation of services. Azim is a highly sought consultant at both national and international levels.

Azim specialized in Family Medicine at University of Toronto. He holds an MD (Honours) from University of Western Ontario, MSc (Honours) in Management Information Systems (MIS) from Boston University, and a Masters degree Health Administration (MHA) from University of Ottawa.


Feroz Kassam, PhD, MBA brings a wealth of experience spanning over 30 years in a variety of senior management positions in Canada and internationally. Most recently he had served as the VP/Director, Strategic Development, VP/Global Brand Director and General Manager of the Canadian Division of Smith & Nephew, a global leader in advanced medical technology products. In addition to his business interests, Feroz has also served as voluntary Chairman of the National Committee of Aga Khan Foundation Canada, a non-profit, leading Canadian agency in international development.
